Health: How clean is your drinking water?

I think most people by now have a water filtration system of some sort in their homes or in their fridges, but how clean are those systems? How reliable are they, really? A few years ago, I assumed filtered water was a little better than tap water, and that tap water was clean drinking water. Not great but definitely not harmful. I was also regularly dealing with body aches, headaches, rashes and I got sick often.

But then one day I had an impromptu meeting with a plumber, who told me, "water is *the* most important nutrient for our bodies, it’s necessary for every cell in our body to function property." And one of the biggest health hacks you can do is to give your body good, clean water.

Sadly, he went on, our drinking water today contains unwanted chemicals: chlorine, lead, mercury, arsenic, fluoride, perchlorate, PFAS chemicals, radium and uranium, and cadmium. These can cause many issues: headaches, stomach cramps, developmental or reproductive effects, cardiovascular effects, neurological disorders and nervous system damage, kidney disease and even cancer.

You can petition the FDA to do something 😩⏰🙄 but since that might take forever, you can take action to take back your agency. After learning about all the toxins in our water, we got serious about health hacking our water supply. (Spoiler alert: my headaches, rashes and gut issues disappeared.)

We got a hydroviv_h2o filtration system. It’s a very good solution that filters out a lot of toxins. But it doesn’t get 5 stars from me because it doesn’t filter out fluoride, a known neurotoxin (tip: skip this step at the dentist, and stop buying toothpaste with fluoride). Still - it’s very effective health hack at filtering out many toxins in our water supply, and I cook with this water regularly. For a good overview of other under-the-sink solutions, I liked this article from health hacker @mommypotamus that I found particularly well researched and well written.

I also switched to drinking high alkaline water, because I love the health hacks that come with this water: it’s purified and has added minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium. These are beneficial to the body and help with digestion and gastrointestinal issues. It also has a smaller molecule structure than regular water, which helps the body stay more hydrated. Finally, studies show drinkers of high alkaline water have less joint pain, swelling, and inflammation due to the added minerals - a fantastic added health hack.

So tell me in the comments: do you trust the water supply?

Or are you drinking filtered water?
