Let’s Talk Toned Necklines because it’s totally possible to get this neckline yourself, you don’t need plastic surgery.
One of the big reasons your neckline sags is because over time your neck muscles weaken, and the skin loses its elasticity and can sag and wrinkle. This can lead to a double chin, neck creases, and a softer jawline. Here’s my clean beauty way - without surgery - to keep a firm, toned neckline:
👉Yoga. I’ve been doing bikram yoga for mobility and flexibility since my 20s. Yoga poses like cobra, locust pose, bow and camel (see images, below) are glorious for loosening tight neck muscles and strengthening the surrounding fascia.
I highly recommend looking into yoga classes to help lengthen your muscles and ease neck and shoulder tension, which can contribute to a tight, tense neck area (that leads to creases and wrinkles). It's a fantastic exercise program to incorporate into your routine, to balance out high intensity training sessions and weight lifting. When doing these poses, I would do these with the intent to feel the stretch in your platysma muscles, and hold these poses for about 30 seconds each. I do these a few times / week, and try to do 2 sets.
👉Mobility training. Mobility courses (many are online) can help relieve tight platysma / trapezius and sternomastoid muscles, and can also strengthen them. I am partial to Kinstretch with Beard's program, as I find that it's very comprehensive, and the courses offer compelling results.
This neck rotation exercise (shown in this picture) is amazing at loosening allllll the vital neck muscles; in the actual exercise you’ll want to do a very slow 360 degree rotation of your neck. Note: please go slower than you think to get the effect you want.
👉Platysma stretching. Especially since we’re looking down at our phones so much, it’s vital to give your neck a much needed massage by stretching your platysma. Start by moisturizing your neck and chest area with a rich serum or hydrating cream. Then, gently push the heel of your palm into your jawline, stretch your head back until you feel a deep stretch in your neck area and push down on your chest with your other hand.
Hold for 2 minutes, each side. Do this several times a week and you'll start to notice a longer, more elegant neck area.
It IS actually possible to have a firm, toned neckline in your 50s without surgery! Start slowly but be deliberate and consistent. Give your body time to adjust to your new regimen, and stay consistent. It WILL happen for you.
