Hyperpigmentation: How to get rid of it

So many women get melasma and hyperpigmentation in their late 40s / early 50s due to hormones and sun damage. I have some pigmentation on my skin today - I think it's hard to have flawless skin, considering I am GenX and was a bain du Soleil baby in my teens...

... but a few years ago, I had a REALLY bad case of it in my mid40s, due to sun damage and hormones. Here's what my skin looked like, about 4 years ago:

I mean, people... I had it bad. I thought this was the way it was going to be for me. Then I started looking into treatment for melasma / hyperpigmentation. If you go to a dermatologist they will likely recommend hydroquinone. This product is effective, but it's also banned in Japan, South Korea, Australia, the UK and most of the Western World because it’s known to cause cancer and liver failure. The fact that it’s still being recommended here in the US and that the FDA allows brands to sell this stuff - I see ads for it all over IG and TT - is simply negligent, evil and appalling.

There has to be a better way.

I decided that was NOT going to be my route and instead researched effective hyperpigmentation solutions. There are a few natural ingredients that reduce hyperpigmentation and melasma over time. They are Niacinamide and Vitamin C. In researching products that offer these two ingredients together, I found Maya Chia’s The SuperLift Vitamin C more.

It’s packed with 3 different types of vitamin C and niacinamide, both of which work to get rid of hyperpigmentation and melasma. Specifically, from their website: The Super Lift Vitamin C-More Treatment is an advanced, high-tech, concentrated formulation that deploys three types of shelf-stable Vitamin C, Tranexamic Acid, Ferulic Acid Esters (plant source), Niacinamide, Peptides, and Stem Cells to brighten the skin tone, while at the same time, smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to restore a more revitalized, brightened appearance.

Yeah. All that stuff, at work on my hyperpigmentation. I’ve been using this product consistently for 2+years. My skin isn't flawless - I still have some spots and I think my freckles will always be permanent - but my skin looks SO MUCH BETTER than it did! Here's my skin today:

no more hyperpigmentation across my nose

I am so thrilled with these results; can you believe how much my skin has improved?! There's a reason this product is a staple in my medicine cabinet and you will have to pry this serum from my cold, stiff hands because I love it so much.
