Every woman knows, dry shampoo is a lifesaver. You can go from hot mess to completely stylish and beautiful in 30 seconds with the right product.

But buying a non-toxic dry shampoo can be tricky. Many major dry shampoo brands* have been found to use high levels of toxic ingredients like Benzene (linked to Leukemia and other cancers) in their formulations. Good news: I've done the research and found a lot of brands that pass my squeaky-clean test! These are across a range of prices and varieties. While I haven't tried all of these products, I can vouch that they come well-recommended by other clean beauty sources and importantly, they do the job of getting rid of hair grease and extending your shampoo look without the toxic chemicals, thank you. What I use: I'm a big fan of Wellnesse's Dry Shampoo product, and I was so excited to tell you all about it!, but when I went to their site I discovered they're no longer selling the product.

Since I'm running low on my stash, here are a list of clean dry shampoo products that make my cut; I'll let you know what makes my short list and why.
Act + Acre $22. This product is an aerosol and is translucent when applied to roots, an important point if you have dark hair. I love that this formulation includes Fulvic Acid to help de-gunk your scalp and protects your scalp microbiome. I also love the minimalist packaging. This is one that'll make my short list.
Acure Dry Shampoo $9.99 This dry shampoo uses kaolin clay and arrowroot to soak up oil and remove grime. I also like that they've added cocoa for darkening. At $9.99, this is a reasonable option for your pocketbook.
Beauty by Earth Dry Shampoo $20 All organic ingredients, this product absorbs oil, adds volume and is suitable for all hair colors. The pump powder dispenser is a safer alternative to an aerosol, and the formulation is vegan, cruelty-free, talc-free and offers a soothing lavender scent.
Briogeo Scalp Revival $25 A non-aerosol dry shampoo that refreshes hair and supports a healthy scalp. Clay, tapioca and rice starches absorb excess oil and blends in well with all hair colors. With Charcoal and biotin for scalp health, I love both of these adds that support healthy hair and a healthy scalp. On my short list of brands to try!
Crown Affair Dry Shampoo $55 With tapioca starch to absorb excess oil and Japanese Persimmon powder, a natural deodorizer that leaves your hair smelling as clean as on wash day, this also refreshes the way your hair feels overall. Comes with a mini-brush to apply product to roots. Pricey but I'm always curious about the expensive ones; who's with me?
Handmade Heroes Dry Shampoo $9.99 With Kaolin clay, peppermint, charcoal and rice powder, this formulation helps to reduce oiliness on the scalp, detoxify and deodorize, and nourish frizzy hair into smooth, silky locks. It's also a great price and I give them A+ for packaging. This is in my cart!
Innersense Dry Shampoo $24 This product is high on my list to try. This brand sources ingredients straight from nature, ensures they're grown organically + sustainably without chemicals, that they're - ethically harvested + sourced from trusted, transparent plantations, orchards + farms around the world... plus, they're a phenomenally wellknown clean beauty luxury haircare brand. This is at the top of my list to try!
Kitsch Dry Shampoo $9 I've tried their bar shampoo & conditioner and absolutely love them, so this is also high on my list to try: Kitsch's Dry Shampoo. With rice protein and ashwagandha to absorb excess oil and add shine, and at a great price, too. This is also on my short list to try!
Lulu Organics Dry Shampoo $24 Kaolin clay and organic cornstarch do the heavy lifting of tackling the excess oil and grime. Jasmine and baking soda deodorize and neutralize odors. Formulated with organic, paraben-free, and talc-free ingredients, this powder is a safe, effective choice for both hair and skin. Plus, this packaging takes me to another era, no?
Odele Dry Shampoo $12 This plant-based powder is packed with arrowroot + rice to give your hair oompf while plant proteins give your scalp some love. Algae, Green Microalgae, and Lavender help reduce scalp dryness and itchiness. I love this brand and have used it in the past; I did find the dry pump jammed on me sometimes, but I just screwed the top off and poured it into my hand and poof! We were off to the races.
Primally Pure Dry Shampoo $30 Made with arrowroot and kaolin clay for oil absorption, cocoa powder and pink grapefruit essential oil for odor control. The natural cleansing properties also add texture and volume and helps stimulate hair growth.
Rahua Dry Shampoo $32 This organic dry shampoo uses cassava to absorb oil, clay to draw out scalp impurities and organic star anise, known for its spicy fragrance and antimicrobial properties to keep scalp clean. I'm super-intrigued by this product and it makes my short list!
Rowe Casa Organics Dry Shampoo $22 Made with organic arrowroot and organic black walnut hull powder for oil absorption, it also has cocoa powder for easy blending and essential grapefruit oil.
Vegamour Dry Shampoo $32 This must-have dry shampoo levels up cleansing benefits with plant-based phytoactives, revitalizing hair at the roots for thicker, fuller looking locks. Utilizing an easy-to-use propellant for even distribution, its lightweight formula refreshes scalp and hair by absorbing excess oils, perspiration and odors for a clean look and feel. Formulated without talc or benzene, and safe for everyday use. Use anytime, anywhere for a healthy looking, clean ‘lift’ of volume.

*In 2023, the #1 dry shampoo brand in the world settled a class-action lawsuit over high levels of Benzene, a known carcinogen linked to leukemia, in its dry shampoo products. In step with this, Unilever recalled many of its dry shampoo products after studies showed these products also contained Benzene levels, and lawsuits continue over whether Unilever knew about potential high levels but failed to warn consumers.
