Organic Protein Powder? In Fact.

Updated: Jul 30

As a woman who is over 50 and really dialed into nutrition and into maximizing my diet for optimal health, I try to get up to 115g of protein daily. It's not easy! I'm constantly looking for ideal protein sources.

53 and staying fit with protein

Which brings me to protein powders. There are TONS on the market; are they all good? Er... not exactly.

I really wanted to love protein powder - but most protein powders do not love me back. My experience is that I would typically have a smoothie for breakfast and by mid morning, I'd be having stomach cramps, gas and severe bloating. Ugh.

After many trial and error attempts, I learned that most protein powders are derived from whey protein, or dairy; this is problematic because I am lactose intolerant (newsflash: so are 70% of people on the planet). As well, many of those protein powders also contain artificial sugars, additives, thickeners, emulsifiers, and GMO ingredients that are heavily sprayed with glyphosate. These ingredients are directly linked to bloating, inflammation and leaky gut. What! As I said: trial and error.

I went into severe geek mode and researched every protein powder I could get my hands on. After much digging, I finally found one that's organic, delivers great protein (20g of plant protein per serving), and is non-dairy, non-GMO, and contains no additives, artificial sweeteners, thickeners, soy, emulsifiers or any other weird ingredients. In fact, it's got only 6 ingredients; all of them are organic (the protein comes from pea protein and chia seed protein). It's Truvani protein powder.

I love this brand because it tastes amazing, delivers 20g of protein per scoop, and I really feel nourished after a smoothie. My kids love it, too, and I love that I'm giving them a healthy treat that tastes "like ice cream" - and one where they can read the label and pronounce every word on the packaging! In terms of flavors, they hit it out of the park with chocolate (my favorite), vanilla, choco peanut butter, lemon cookie, banana cinnamon, vanilla chai - they're all healthy, protein-rich and good for you. What a win! Final word: I'm not an affiliate, I'm not getting paid for this post. I'm really picky when it comes to recommending food options, but this is a Big Yes for me. You can find Truvani protein powder on their website and also at Whole Foods.

So go get your protein game on! xoxo
