What Actually Works in Midlife

February sits in the middle of winter. Nature is quiet and in reserve, creating space for us to reflect and assess what's working for us now, and what needs change for where we want to go, once the thaw begins.
This newsletter lives in that same space.
What Actually Works in Midlife is me sharing my habits, movement practices, nutrition choices, and perspectives that meaningfully support thriving in midlife. Youâll find guidance on building real strength, supporting joint health, fueling & hydrating to thrive, and the viewpoints on aging Iâve formed and have come to stand by over time. There are other goodies like my favorite facial exercise to get rid of smoker's lines, and my clean beauty Product of the Month pick - a soothing balm that'll calm even the driest, most sensitive wintry skin.
What we pay attention to now shapes our outcomes. Let's focus our energies on what works, so we can thrive.

The Skinny on Water: A Smarter Way to Hydrate
We don't think much about how to hydrate, but actually how and when we drink matters as much as the quantity we're taking in. Here are some learnings from TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Ayurveda that I found striking - incorporating these into your daily routine can lead to less bloating, better digestion and more toxin elimination.

8 Foods I'll Never Eat Again as a Woman Who's Thriving in Midlife
Not too long ago, I ate what I wanted, and had a pretty cavalier attitude about food and nutrition. I've come to realize that food is medicine. Listening to my body and giving it what it actually needs has made midlife feel⊠lighter, more energized, and honestly, filled with more joy.

Arthritis in Midlife: What Helps and What Makes It Worse
Years ago, I was diagnosed with early onset arthritis. It hasn't slowed me down in the least, and science backs what I've been saying for years: movement is medicine. It's also healing for arthritis and joint pain. Counter-intuitive, but the worst thing you can do is avoid movement and weight-bearing exercise. Read more about this here.
ICYMI: Mastering Pushups
Last month, I had a reel go viral -- it was of me, demonstrating how to do a proper pushup. I truly believe every woman should be able to do a proper pushup! Let me help you with this tutorial, and if you have wrist pain? I've got you covered, too.
Product of the Month: Maya Chia's Power Fol System
Hair in midlife can be tricky. Shifting hormones, insufficent nutrients and low Vitamin D levels can contribute to hair being thinner, more susceptible to breakage, and lackluster. A year ago, I started using Maya Chia's Power Fol system: shampoo, conditioner and scalp serum.
The image on the left (below) is my hair, when I started. The image on the right is my hair today. I'm pretty devoted, and it's easy to see why. Stronger, thicker, more vibrant hair. And my hair shines.

Never any toxins or weird ingredients that'll mess with your hormones or cause hair loss. Just results for miles. Maya Chia's Power Fol system: shampoo & conditioner, and scalp serum. It'll forever be my go-to hair system. Code Silver15 saves you 15% off.
Facial Exercise of the Month: Lip Circles
One of my favorite facial exercises for getting rid of smoker lines: Lip Circles. With your lips pressed together in a wide smile, take your index finger and gently massage the main muscle around your mouth, the Orbicularis Oris. By relaxing the tight muscle, the lines around your lips give way and skin is smoother. Consistency breeds results! Why not try it?
Thanks for reading âșïž I'd love to hear from you what you liked and/or if you've got a topic you'd like me to cover in a future newsletter. Stay great and let's do aging well naturally together!
